1 FLIBS- Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

My two favorite sayings from our, H2O Trips visit for charter boat viewing at  the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this week:

A gentleman talking to someone on the phone and saying, quite loudly, “I have been standing in the sun for 4 hours now and I have not been able to get on one boat yet”.
Sitting on the shuttle bus and two gentlemen behind me were talking.

One was from Canada, Kingston to be precise. The other gentleman said “maybe you know my dousing, he lived in Toronto” (At least the two places are in the same province!) Then he goes on to say that that was about 15 years ago he lived in Toronto and he is dead now. The first guy did not know him!

They had the funneling effect going on well at the boat show. To get into the boat grounds you passed through the small, packed , accessory tents before you found the docks. That then led us onto the cars….

A concept I am not that used to since I had mainly dealt with smaller yacht. All the large large yachts appear to have a shadow boat with them nowadays. This could be as common as a 54’ Grand Banks Trawler, or larger.

This 150’ old research vessel was pushing itself as a “shadow boat” at the marina! Now, that is quite the large shadow boat.

Oh the world of excess…

This yacht apparently is no longer Triple Net, as the owners are willing to purchase an astonishing 16 weeks of charter from you if you buy it over the next two years!

I am sure I have seen various incarnations of this floating (ugly) resort going around many times before over the years. They are not still around. Take that as a warning!

Stick with the Rolls Royce I think, instead of a helicopter on a yacht, apparently you can drive it right up onto your stern!

Here you go!

Here is a lounging chair that I thought looked quite comfortable for me to curl up with a book and a cold drink though…

So..which one should I have brought home for you? Or would you like several?

Typing this as we are just about to land into ST Thomas so we can go visit the next boat show on the list this year. Bonus points because my two oldest sons are in the boat too showing their own boat!

Observations: It was HOT. I probably don’t have to go back to another one too soon. The preview day was the best as it was less busy. Other then that, I was mooing most of the time to get around anywhere.

I have never seen so many 20 year old females in little sun dresses who could barely speak english showing yachts. The show is too big for my liking. It made me want to search out the very small niche charter yacht shows. I will never complain about walking the docks at the Tortola or St Thomas show ever again!
